It is not that complicated to plan what attracts you and what you need for your next safari in Tanzania. Chances are that everything you need is already in your closet! GENAU GUIDES Limited clothing recommendations apply to all seasons of a Tanzania safari as you will follow several guidelines as your route heads to the top of Kilimanjaro towards famous Zanzibar beach.
WEATHER IN TANZANIA
The best months to observe wildlife in Tanzania are during the dry season, from late June to October. The best time to see wildebeest migration in the Serengeti is during the months of June and July and the wildebeest delivery season runs from late January to February. The main rainy season in Tanzania, or “long rains”, lasts around March, April and May.
WHAT KIND OF CLOTHING IS RECOMMENDED FOR SAFARI?
Casual, comfortable and easy to wash clothes are recommended. Packaging is the point, as most lodges and camps do laundry for a small fee. Safaris are informal and there is no need to dress up. Dress in layers so that you can adapt to changes in temperature, as morning safaris can be quite cold depending on the time of year, while daytime temperatures can be quite high. Stick to neutral or khaki colors and avoid wearing dark blue or black clothing, as these colors tend to attract tsetse flies. You will need wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, and bug spray. After dark, put on long pants, T-shirts and long socks, and spray insect repellent to prevent mosquito bites.
RECOMMENDED SAFARI CLOTHING TO WEAR
T-shirt and tank top
Long-sleeved shirts (to protect against sunburn)
Lightweight long pants or convertible long shorts
Warm sweater or fleece jacket
a swim suit
Cotton socks and underwear
A pair of comfortable walking shoes.
A pair of sandals or flip flops
handkerchief (for cloth)
Thick sweater, gloves and hat if traveling in the cold season (June – August)
CLOTHING FOR ZANZIBAR
Dress modestly when visiting Stone Town or going anywhere outside of Zanzibar’s beach clubs. Women should not wear sleeveless or low-cut tops and short skirts or foot-length shorts (capri pants or at least knee-length shorts are fine). Men should wear shirts, pants, or knee lengths.
