Cheryl Cole and Fearne Cotton had both collapsed but were among nine celebrities to raise £1.4million for Comic Relief for climbing Africa’s highest mountain.

It was a lot harder than she had expected. Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, has surpassed any bird they have ever encountered.

But after five days of grueling ascents, gale force winds made singer Cheryl Cole, TV and radio host Fearne Cotton, GMTV host Ben Shephard and actress Denise Van Outen the first comic relief celebrity to reach the summit.

A post on his Twitter from the mountain simply reads, “Up is God.” When asked to describe the climb they just completed, the stars used words like “excruciating pain,” “hell on earth,” and ” dreadful”. We started the last room in the light from four in the morning until midnight and reached a summit of 19,300 feet six hours later when the sun started to surprise us.
