Day 1: Arusha to Serengeti for Game Drive
After breakfast, you depart for Serengeti National Park, via the beautiful high lying farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Leaving the highlands behind, we descend into the heart of wild Africa – the Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. Then head to the central park area, known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. Arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Serengeti National Park.
Short brief about Serengeti National Park
The Serengeti is a renowned national park located in northern Tanzania, East Africa. It spans around 14,750 square kilometers (5,700 square miles) and is famous for its vast savannahs, rich biodiversity, and the annual Great Migration of over 1.5 million wildebeest, zebras, and other herbivores. The migration is one of the most spectacular wildlife events in the world. The Serengeti is home to a wide variety of animals, including the “Big Five” (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros) and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The park also has significant cultural importance, as it’s near the Maasai Mara in Kenya and inhabited by the Maasai people.
Day 2: Transfer Game Drive Serengeti to Ngorongoro
A transfer game drive from Serengeti to Ngorongoro offers a scenic and wildlife-filled journey across Tanzania’s iconic landscapes. During this transfer, you’ll travel through the Serengeti’s vast plains, where you can spot various wildlife, including lions, zebras, and giraffes. As you move toward Ngorongoro, the landscape gradually changes, with views of rolling hills and the lush highlands. The drive includes brief stops to observe animals along the way and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Upon arrival at Ngorongoro, you’ll be ready to explore the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, known for its diverse wildlife and stunning natural beauty. It’s a memorable experience that combines both travel and wildlife viewing in one.
Short brief about Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in northern Tanzania. It is the world’s largest inactive volcanic caldera, formed millions of years ago after a massive volcanic eruption. The crater, which spans about 260 square kilometers, is often referred to as the “Garden of Eden” due to its rich biodiversity and lush landscapes. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including the “Big Five,” and is known for having one of the highest concentrations of large mammals in Africa. The Ngorongoro Crater also hosts a variety of bird species, making it a popular destination for both wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers.
Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater Tour – Back to Arusha
After an early breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive. This is one of the best places in Africa to spot all members of the Big Five in a single game drive. Explore the diverse landscapes of the crater floor, from forested slopes to open grasslands and soda lakes. Expect to see elephants, lions, hippos, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, and possibly the elusive black rhino. After a picnic lunch inside the crater, begin the drive back to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon, marking the end of an unforgettable safari experience.
