Plan Your Trip

The Genau Guides Collection

6 days / 5 nights Migration-focused Serengeti safari

Following the Herds.

Six days to watch the story unfold.

Give the Serengeti your time. Explore a region selected around your travel dates, spend longer observing wildlife, and leave room for the moments that make you want to stay a little longer.

Your dates guide the planning. Wildlife movements shape the experience.

More time to notice

A considered location

Your dates help shape the route

Time in the field

Four full days between flight days

A wider wildlife story

Look beyond a single sighting

Give the landscape your time

Stay with the story.

A herd gathering on the horizon. A pause to watch what happens next. A morning that takes an unexpected turn. This journey gives you time to pay attention.

Spend five nights in accommodation selected around your travel dates and wildlife interests. Proposed flights from and back to Arusha frame the journey, leaving four full days between arrival and departure for game viewing and any planned movement between camps.

Fewer changes. More time to observe.

The preference is to spend longer in a suitable area. A second camp is considered where it supports the confirmed route and your interests.

How your safari takes shape

Your dates are the starting point.

Start with your dates

Choose the location

Your travel period and priorities guide the proposed region, accommodation and airstrip. The final selection also depends on availability and practical connections.

Make room for discovery

Spend longer exploring

Four full days between flight days allow time for game viewing, patient observation and any camp transfer specified in your itinerary.

Keep an open perspective

Enjoy the wider story

Let your interests extend beyond the herds. Animal behaviour, birds and the changing landscape can make the quieter moments just as rewarding.

A living landscape

Plan the opportunity. Leave room for nature.

The journey is planned around your dates. Wildlife encounters unfold on their own terms.

A migration-focused itinerary places importance on location, but camp reservations and flights are arranged in advance. Daily game-drive plans can adapt within the booked area and applicable park rules.

“Following the Herds” does not mean moving camp whenever the animals move. Changes to the booked region or accommodation depend on availability, logistics and any additional costs. Migration sightings and river crossings cannot be guaranteed.

Discuss your dates

Your safari, day by day

Arrive. Settle in. Look a little longer.

Five nights give the journey room to unfold. This sample outlines the rhythm of your safari; your personalised itinerary confirms the region, camp arrangements, flights and daily services.

Day 01 Your first glimpse

Fly into the Serengeti

Arusha Airport → selected safari airstrip → camp

Begin the day

Make your way to Arusha Airport, with a transfer if included in your quotation. Check in for your scheduled light-aircraft flight to the airstrip selected for your itinerary. Your flight details confirm the departure time, routing and baggage allowance.

As the day unfolds

Meet your safari guide on arrival and begin exploring on the way to camp. Depending on the flight time and distance to your accommodation, there may be time for a picnic lunch and further game viewing before settling in.

Back at camp

Enjoy dinner and discuss the days ahead with your guide. Share your wildlife and photography interests so these can inform game-drive plans within the booked area.

Overnight

Selected Serengeti-region camp or lodge

Proposed meals

Lunch and dinner, subject to arrival time and confirmed arrangements

Good to know

Plan to arrive in Arusha before the safari begins. Arrival-night accommodation, airport transfers and any additional travel are included only where specified in your quotation.

Day 02 Read the landscape

Your first full safari day

Game drives within your selected safari region

Begin the day

Head out early with your guide and begin getting to know the area. Pause to scan the landscape, observe animal behaviour and notice the smaller details that are easy to miss when moving quickly.

As the day unfolds

Explore on a full-day outing with a packed lunch, or discuss morning and afternoon drives where the camp location allows. Your route is shaped by conditions, wildlife activity and your interests within the permitted area.

Back at camp

Return to camp for dinner and time to unwind. Talk through the day’s encounters and what you would like to explore further.

Overnight

Same confirmed camp or lodge

Proposed meals

Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Good to know

A migration-focused route creates opportunities to look for the herds, but their location and visibility vary. Daily game drives remain within the access and services included in your booking.

Day 03 Stay with the moment

Time to watch and understand

Further exploration from your safari base

Begin the day

Begin another day in the field, revisiting a promising area or exploring a different part of the surrounding landscape. With no camp move planned today, there is time to pause when an encounter holds your attention.

As the day unfolds

Let the day develop around what you find. Watch the interactions within a herd, follow your guide’s interpretation of the landscape, or spend time enjoying birds and other wildlife. Photography interests can help shape the pace without disturbing animals or leaving permitted routes.

Back at camp

Return to your accommodation and enjoy a relaxed dinner. Each day adds context to the landscape, even when the wildlife encounters are different from those you expected.

Overnight

Same confirmed camp or lodge

Proposed meals

Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Good to know

Patient observation is part of this safari. Time spent waiting does not guarantee a particular event, predator encounter or river crossing.

Day 04 A deeper exploration

Explore further, or change your base

Local game drives or a camp transfer specified in your itinerary

Begin the day

If staying at the same camp, set out for another day exploring the surrounding region. If your confirmed itinerary includes a second property, depart after breakfast for the planned transfer.

As the day unfolds

A day at the same base allows more time for game viewing. A relocation day combines the onward journey with wildlife viewing where practical; the time available depends on distance, road conditions and access arrangements.

Back at camp

Return to your familiar camp or settle into the second property named in your itinerary. Enjoy dinner and prepare for your final full safari day.

Overnight

Same camp, or a second property confirmed before travel

Proposed meals

Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Good to know

A second camp is an itinerary option agreed during planning. It is not an automatic move in response to herd movements. Any additional transport, flights or access fees must be confirmed in your quotation.

Day 05 One more day in the wild

Make the most of your final full day

Game drives from your confirmed safari base

Begin the day

Set out with your guide for your last full exploration day. Revisit a favourite area or seek a different perspective within the region accessible from your camp.

As the day unfolds

Give the day to the experiences that have drawn you in: watching the herds where present, observing other wildlife, or simply spending longer with the landscape. Lunch arrangements follow the day’s agreed plan and your confirmed meal package.

Back at camp

Enjoy your final safari dinner. Confirm the next morning’s departure arrangements with your guide and prepare your luggage for the flight.

Overnight

Final night at your confirmed camp or lodge

Proposed meals

Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Good to know

Optional activities, including a balloon safari where available, require advance arrangements and are separately charged unless included. Operator restrictions and weather conditions apply.

Day 06 A last look at the plains

Fly back to Arusha

Camp → confirmed departure airstrip → Arusha Airport

Begin the day

Enjoy breakfast before your transfer to the departure airstrip. Depending on flight timing and the location of your camp, there may be an opportunity for wildlife viewing en route.

As the day unfolds

Board your scheduled flight to Arusha. The service may include intermediate stops, with the final routing and timings confirmed in your flight arrangements.

Your onward journey

Your six-day safari ends at Arusha Airport. Continue with the onward transfer, overnight stay or travel arrangements specified separately in your quotation.

Overnight

No overnight stay included

Proposed meals

Breakfast; additional meals only if specified

Good to know

Arusha Airport and Kilimanjaro International Airport are different airports. Share onward flight details before booking so transfer times and an appropriate connection buffer can be assessed.

A tented camp or safari lodge in the region confirmed for your travel dates.

How your five nights may be arranged

A single safari base

Five nights in one place

Suitable where one location supports the agreed route and your wildlife interests.

A planned change of scenery

Three nights, then two

Begin with three nights at your first property, then make a planned transfer on day four for two nights at a second camp or lodge. The transfer method and time are confirmed in advance.

An optional arrangement where the additional location justifies the travel time and cost.

Planning Following the Herds

Select a question to read more
When should I travel for this safari?

Choosing your travel dates

Start by sharing your available dates and what you most want to experience. We will assess a suitable region, accommodation and flight routing for that period. If your dates are flexible, we can discuss alternative proposals before you choose. The final itinerary identifies where you will stay and explore.

Are migration sightings or river crossings guaranteed?

Wildlife expectations

No. The itinerary is planned to create opportunities for wildlife viewing, but animals move independently of travel plans. Neither migration sightings nor river crossings can be guaranteed. We encourage you to approach the journey with an interest in the wider wildlife experience.

Which part of the Serengeti will we visit?

Your safari location

The region is selected during planning around your dates, interests, accommodation availability and practical flight connections. Your quotation confirms the named camps, their locations, arrival and departure airstrips, and any applicable conservation-area access arrangements.

Does “Following the Herds” mean moving camp every day?

Understanding the itinerary

No. The proposed journey favours longer stays at a suitable base. You may spend all five nights at one property, or follow an agreed three-night and two-night arrangement. Camps and flights are booked in advance; the itinerary does not automatically relocate whenever the herds move.

How flexible are the daily game drives?

Time in the field

Daily plans can adapt within the booked region, permitted routes, access hours and confirmed services. Your guide considers wildlife activity, conditions and your interests. Private and shared arrangements offer different levels of flexibility, so your quotation will identify which applies.

What happens if we stay at two camps?

Camp transfers

A two-camp itinerary includes a planned transfer, normally on day four in this sample. The confirmed route specifies whether that journey is by road or another agreed transport arrangement. Transfer time can reduce the time available for game viewing, and associated costs must be included in the quotation.

What luggage and camera equipment can I bring?

Packing for your flights

Your confirmed airline and route determine baggage limits and bag requirements. Tell us about large camera bags or other equipment before booking so we can check the applicable allowance and any additional arrangements. Extra baggage capacity is subject to availability and may cost more.

Can I choose a lodge instead of a tented camp?

Accommodation arrangements

Share your preferred accommodation style and budget when enquiring. Suitable options depend on the selected region and availability. Your quotation identifies the property, room category, meal plan and any facilities important to your stay.

Can children join this journey?

Travelling as a family

Suitability depends on children’s ages, the selected properties, flight requirements and your preferred daily pace. Provide the ages of all children so we can check accommodation policies, room arrangements and activity restrictions before proposing the itinerary.

Can we include a balloon safari?

Additional experiences

You can request a balloon safari during planning. Availability depends on the selected location, operator requirements and weather. It is separately charged unless expressly included, and its timing must fit your confirmed accommodation and game-drive arrangements.

Can I connect to an international flight on day six?

Onward travel

Share your onward flight details before booking. The sample ends at Arusha Airport, which is separate from Kilimanjaro International Airport. We must assess the safari flight schedule, road transfer and connection buffer together. An additional overnight stay may be appropriate and would be quoted separately.

Give the Serengeti your time
