Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at JRO then transfer to Tarangire for game drive.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be warmly welcomed by your professional safari guide. After a short briefing, you’ll begin your journey southwest toward Tarangire National Park, a scenic drive of about 3–4 hours through rural landscapes and Maasai villages. Upon entering the park, you’ll enjoy an afternoon game drive through vast savannahs dotted with iconic baobab trees and acacia woodlands. Tarangire is especially renowned for its large herds of elephants, which often gather near the Tarangire River, along with lions, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, and more than 500 bird species. After the game drive, you’ll head to your lodge or tented camp located either inside or just outside the park for dinner and an overnight stay.

Tarangire National Park, located in northern Tanzania, covers approximately 2,850 square kilometers and is renowned for its vast elephant herds and towering baobab trees. During the dry season, the park becomes a vital refuge for wildlife, drawing thousands of animals to the life-sustaining Tarangire River. It supports over 3,000 elephants, large populations of buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, and predators such as lions, leopards, and occasionally cheetahs. Bird enthusiasts can enjoy sightings of more than 550 bird species, including the endemic yellow-collared lovebird and the strikingly colorful lilac-breasted roller. Despite being less visited than the Serengeti, Tarangire offers equally rich game viewing in a more serene and uncrowded setting.

Day 2

Transfer from Tarangire to Ngorongoro crater for game drive.

After an early breakfast, depart from Tarangire and drive approximately 3 hours toward the world-famous Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Upon arrival, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater—an ancient volcanic caldera and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside the crater, you’ll spend the day exploring its incredibly rich ecosystem, home to nearly 25,000 animals, including the Big Five: lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard. The lush crater floor supports a high concentration of predators and prey, offering excellent game viewing in a compact area. You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the designated spots, typically near a hippo pool. In the afternoon, ascend the crater wall and drive to your accommodation in the nearby town of Karatu or on the crater rim for dinner and overnight.

Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in northern Tanzania, is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, spanning about 260 square kilometers within the greater 8,292-square-kilometer Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Often called “Africa’s Eden,” the crater is home to an extraordinary density of wildlife, including over 25,000 large animals. It shelters all members of the Big Five—with a notable population of black rhinos, large lion prides, elephants, buffaloes, and elusive leopards. The crater’s diverse habitats also support hippos, hyenas, zebras, gazelles, and more than 500 bird species, including flamingos on Lake Magadi. Thanks to its natural enclosure and year-round water supply, Ngorongoro offers some of the most consistent and rewarding game viewing in Africa.

Day 3

Transfer to Lake Manyara for game drive then departure.

After breakfast, check out and head to Lake Manyara National Park, just under an hour’s drive from Karatu. Though relatively small in size, Lake Manyara offers a stunning diversity of landscapes, including groundwater forests, open grasslands, and the alkaline lake itself. During your morning game drive, keep an eye out for the park’s famous tree-climbing lions, large troops of baboons, elephants, giraffes, and a vibrant variety of birdlife including pelicans, hornbills, and thousands of flamingos along the lake shore. After your safari, enjoy lunch and begin the drive back to Kilimanjaro International Airport (approx. 3–4 hours), where your unforgettable safari adventure concludes with drop-off in time for your evening flight.

Lake Manyara National Park, nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment in northern Tanzania, spans approximately 325 square kilometers, two-thirds of which is dominated by the shallow, alkaline Lake Manyara. Despite its small size, the park boasts remarkable biodiversity, including large troops of baboons, elephants, and the famous tree-climbing lions. The lake attracts thousands of flamingos and over 400 bird species, making it a birdwatcher’s paradise. Its varied habitats—from groundwater forests and open savannahs to hot springs—support wildlife such as giraffes, hippos, impalas, warthogs, and even elusive leopards. Lake Manyara offers a scenic and compact safari experience with excellent game viewing and stunning landscapes.
