Grumeti Game Reserve

About Grumeti Game Reserve

Grumeti Game Reserve is a private wildlife concession located along the western corridor of the Serengeti ecosystem in northern Tanzania. Covering approximately 350,000 acres, Grumeti offers an exclusive safari experience with luxurious lodges and world-class service, all set within a rich and thriving natural environment. The reserve is strategically positioned along the route of the Great Migration, giving visitors front-row seats to one of the most extraordinary wildlife spectacles on earth—when millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles move in search of greener pastures.

Grumeti is part of the Northern Safari Circuit, which includes iconic destinations such as Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, and Tarangire. Although not a national park itself, Grumeti functions as a vital wildlife corridor and conservation area that supports the broader ecosystem. It offers a more intimate and exclusive alternative to the busier sections of the Serengeti, with limited lodges and a strict policy on visitor numbers, ensuring privacy and top-tier experiences.

The reserve is home to all of the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino), as well as cheetahs, hyenas, hippos, and a remarkable variety of birdlife. Game drives, walking safaris, horseback safaris, and hot-air balloon rides provide different perspectives of the landscape. Thanks to the work of conservation-focused organizations like the Grumeti Fund, the area has seen a successful revival in wildlife populations and habitat protection. Grumeti Game Reserve is a shining example of luxury tourism supporting meaningful conservation within Tanzania’s Northern Circuit.
